Starshine Musical Theatre is a brand new performing arts school, opened in 2019! Starshine provides high quality training in singing, dancing and acting for children, ages 6 to 16, all in one place! We understand it can be exhausting driving your kids all over the place to separate dance classes, rehearsals, and music lessons. Our teachers are professionals with decades of experience in bringing the arts to children, and building their confidence while developing their natural talent.
Starshine is a place for all our performers to explore their strengths and weaknesses, to foster their natural talent, and to find their unique creativity.
There is no audition, so sign up today!
Karen has been a voice teacher and musical director for over twenty years, on three continents.
Her students have won competitions, scholarships and awards, excelled at exams, recorded albums (and toured them!) and appeared on stages and screens all over the world. She directed children in professional operas, and many West End shows, such as Evita, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Scrooge, The King and I, and Whistle Down the Wind, and was Musical Director for many other productions (including one that made it into the Guinness Book of World Records!). As a singer, Karen was lucky enough to be a member of the international award-winning choral group, Anúna, and to sing with multiple-Grammy Award winner Tom Chapin in concert, both in Ireland and in Phoenix. In Phoenix, Karen was musical director for 20 shows over the last four years. It is her passion to bringing quality musical training to students and help each child find their voice.
Ashlee Elder is thrilled to join Starshine as Drama Teacher, and can't wait to begin! She received her BA in Theatre Arts (directing emphasis) from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Ashlee has been teaching and working on shows all around the Boulder and Denver areas since moving to Boulder last summer. Ashlee finds joy in being able to share her love of theatre with the next generation and can't wait to see what sort of magic we make together through Starshine!
Tayla has been teaching dance for over five years and is very excited to continue her passion at Starshine Musical Theatre! She attended a performing arts school from 1st-8th grade and fell in love with dance, band, and theatre. She grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and is now studying Astrophysics and Atmospheric/Oceanic Sciences at CU Boulder. She has been the lead choreographer for two studios' competition teams, where her students have won several awards and scholarships, including "most emotional dance", "storyteller" and "most energetic" awards! Tayla has danced professionally with artists including tWitch, Sonya Tayeh, and Somo (and she's even modeled for dance magazines)! She is trained in jazz, contemporary, acrobatics, hip hop, ballet, and musical theatre, and is very excited to bring a mix of styles and games for her students at Starshine.
